On October 3, 2024, the GEF 7 EV Project in collaboration with Saint Lucia’s Electricity Services (LUCELEC) hosted the Saint Lucia Charging Infrastructure Readiness Tour, an initiative designed to evaluate the nation’s preparedness for the transition to electric vehicles (EVs). The tour underscores LUCELEC’s dedication to supporting the development of sustainable energy solutions, particularly through the deployment of strategically located EV charging stations across the island. This event also highlights LUCELEC’s significant contributions to advancing electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Saint Lucia.

The tour brought together key stakeholders, including Jone Orbeaotazua, Project Specialist of the United Nations Environment Programme, Quanley Marieatte, System Planning Engineer at LUCELEC, and representatives from the Project Management Unit of the GEF 7 EV Project. These participants collaborated to assess four of LUCELEC’s newly inaugurated charging stations located in strategic, high-priority areas (Link to LUCELEC charging station launch -x https://www.facebook.com/share/v/19dSFvzhNG/)  :

1. Vieux Fort – Town
2. Dennery – Massy Supermarket
3. Gros Islet – Rodney Bay
4. Soufriere – Bus Terminal

These charging stations are integral to LUCELEC’s strategy to foster an EV-friendly environment and reduce the island’s carbon footprint. By hosting this tour, LUCELEC aims to showcase its leadership in sustainable infrastructure development and its commitment to supporting Saint Lucia’s transition to clean, efficient transportation solutions.

The event offered UNEP representatives and LUCELEC officials an opportunity to discuss future initiatives, evaluate the operational effectiveness of the charging stations, and further strengthen collaborative efforts in promoting sustainable mobility solutions on the island.

This formal engagement reaffirms LUCELEC’s mission to power a greener future for Saint Lucia while enabling a seamless shift to electric mobility for residents and visitors alike.
